This is an impressive walkthrough. However, personally I think it’s a bit overwhelming for those who’d like to build a site of their own, and has no previous experience. I’d say this is for builders who have at least basic understanding of HTML coding. But nevertheless, good guide. Very thorough.

I would like to say, thanks for taking the time to put this tutorial together it was real helpful. I am really looking forward to the next textpattern tutorial as I am in the process of getting my head around navigating through categories ..

@blah – The .rtf files in the Plugins folder can be opened with TextEdit on the Mac. If you are on Windows you may need to use Word or Wordpad. They install just fine as i am doing that at this moment for a new site i’m building.

( I’m building a new non-portfolio site based on Marie’s excellent Tutorial )

hi, is the zip file meant to contain .rtfs? none of the plugins can be uploaded, incidentally, i had to google them individually to install.

also, the forms are all rtf files. is this intentional?

You can keep textpattern’s default form.
To get rid of that sentence, go to presentation > forms > comments_display.
look for this line:
and delete it.

Hello Marie

First of all I have to say this is a great tutorial for a newbie to cms like myself but i can’t seem to find a default form in the download zip for overriding the default in textpattern?

So I installed everything following the tutorial guideline…except the step to override the default form.

When I click on any thumbnail/link in the portfolio_listing page to the work’s own page “Commenting is closed for this article.” this message comes up and I can’t seem to find where it is to remove it.

are you forgetting the < tags?

and did you install the upm_image plugin?
also, your quotes don’t look right, make sure you type them in properly (don’t just copy and paste, actually type them in)

oopps tags stripped out

These tags don’t seem to be working for me.
txp:upm_article_image / and
txp:upm_article_image type=”thumbnail” limit=”1″ /

I add an article image to an article txp:image id=”6″ / but neither the thumb nor the large image get displayed

Thanks. i have re-donloaed and it’s there.

I have made much progress!

PS there is some small editing of the Forms. We are asked to create a Header form, but in many places it refers to “Head”

‘excerpt’ is actually not used in this tutorial, so it is unnecessary, sorry for the confusion!

In the download there is a form called “meta”, and it does have an example… it’s too long to copy and paste here. msg me on twitter or email me if you need help.

i can’t find the files/text examples for the following two “forms:
- meta (misc) –
why not include a generic example?

- excerpt (article) … this one seems important…
but no example is included in the downloads

what does this refer to?

Hi Marie – Many thanks for this! i have been using TxP for a blog for a number of years now, but i had never tried moving on to try it as more of a cms tool. I have been wanting to do a portfolio website and i had hoped to use TxP for it for a variety of reasons. Your tutorial and supporting files should help me in getting my portfolio site in TxP up and running.
